This year's FIRST LEGO League Qualifying Tournament saw a record 122 teams vying for a chance to compete at the US Open Championship at LEGOland in CA.  61 teams met January 24-25 at Central Islip High School and the other 61 teams met at Mineola High School on January 31, with 40 teams advancing to the championship tournament to be held March 1 at Longwood High School.

Three of six Garden City Robotics League teams are advancing to Longwood High School, having taken this year's challenge of improving how people learn something new by helping the visually impaired learn abot the solar system.

Next year's challenge was also announced. 'Trash Talk' will require students to explore all aspects of trash, from collection and sorting to smart production and reuse.
