Students from 51 area high schools met at Hofstra University to pit their robots against each other in the 17th Annual SBPLI Regional FIRST Robotics Competition with this year's theme being: 'FIRST Stronghold.' On a castle-style field, the teams tried to breach their opponent's defenses, shooting boulders through goals to score points.
Three teams: Hurricane Floyd (Mastic Beach), Sachem Aftershock (Lake Ronkonkoma) and TEAM R.I.C.E. (Southold) came out on top and will advance to compete in St. Louis, April 27 - 30 at the FIRST Robotics Championship. Seaford High School senior, Nick Liuzzi was also named MVP of the competition - the event's highest individual honor.
